Fraxel Laser Resurfacing

The Fraxel laser is a revolutionary skin resurfacing treatment designed to rejuvenate and repair sun-damaged/aging skin with precision and minimal downtime. Using advanced fractional laser technology, it safely targets brown spots, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.

What is Fraser used for?

  • The Fraxel Dual features two distinct laser wavelengths which can be used for different purposes.
  • 1927 nm (Superficial): Focuses on pigmentation and sun damage for a more even skin tone.
  • 1550 nm (Deeper): Penetrates deeper to stimulate collagen, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

How does Fraxel work?

  • Fraxel uses tiny laser beams to create small, controlled heat channels in the skin in a pixelated pattern, leaving the surrounding skin untouched. This process helps stimulate the skin’s natural healing, promoting the production of new collagen and leading to cellular rejuvenation.
  • The density and depth of these tiny channels can be adjusted based on the desired outcome, the patient’s skin type and the permissible down time.

Does Fraxel hurt?

  • Most patients describe the sensation as a warm prickling or stinging. A topical numbing cream is applied for 60 minutes beforehand to minimize discomfort, and most people find it very tolerable.

How many treatments will I need?

  • Usually 2-3 sessions are recommended

What is the down time after a Fraxel session?

  • About 1 week. Your skin will look slightly pink and swollen (like a mild sunburn) for 1-2 days after the procedure.
  • For the superficial wavelength, you will experience darkening and peeling of brown spots by days 3-4, which usually lasts about 2 days.
  • For the deeper wavelength, your skin will look slightly swollen for 2-3 days after and the texture of the skin may feel “rough” for 3-5 more days before it starts feeling and looking normal again.

Can I apply makeup after a Fraxel session?

  • Yes. It’s ok to apply a light powder-based makeup to the treated area by day 2-3 to help camouflage some of the redness.
